A SHORT HISTORY OF THE BENCH SEAT
The history of the bench begins in England, where private spaces were very popular. At the opera or in church, families settled in "boxes" to assert their status and obtain a little privacy.
At the end of the 18th century, the first restaurants offered secluded spaces, giving rise to the cabin, the ancestor of the bench. In the United States, these booths are adorned with curtains to provide more privacy, raising concerns about covert behavior, leading to their banning in some states.
With Prohibition, the cabins gave way to high-back benches, gradually evolving into the current version.
