WHEN THE BAR INVITES ITSELF INTO THE KITCHEN: STYLE AND CONVIVIALITY ON THE MENU!

A hybrid space that reinvents everyday moments

Among the most fashionable design trends this year, the bar area integrated into the kitchen is a real favorite among our customers. This new way of furnishing the kitchen combines aesthetics, functionality and a passion for home mixology.

For several months now, we have seen a growing enthusiasm for the creation of a space dedicated to craft cocktails and spirits. Our customers want to incorporate a stylish bar area into their kitchen to store mixology accessories, display their favourite bottles, and prepare drinks in style.

In the past, the home bar was limited to the traditional '60s wheeled cart — popularized by shows like Mad Men — or the retro basement bar of the '70s. Today, these concepts are being reinvented to fit modern kitchens.

While integrated wine cellars still appeal to wine lovers, cocktail enthusiasts are looking for creative solutions to diversify their beverage space. Whether you're a fan of local spirits, a mocktail lover or a budding mixologist, incorporating a bar into your kitchen is the perfect solution to combine style, conviviality and the pleasure of entertaining.

Tips from our kitchen designers: create an elegant and functional bar area

1. Set up a dedicated bar cabinet in your kitchen

The built-in bar cabinet is the ideal solution to have all the mixology needs at hand. You can opt for a discreet design by closing the doors to hide everything, or on the contrary, create a wow effect by opening them at aperitif time.

Already in the design phase of your kitchen, it is essential to plan this space carefully. With a few thoughtful adjustments, you can store all your essentials: cocktail glasses, bottles, accessories and even a mini wine cellar or wine preserver.

2. Opt for stylish shelves

The interior design is as important as the exterior appearance. For a chic and coherent look, choose natural wood shelves, or combine them with metal structures. The effect is modern, warm and refined at the same time, perfect for a sophisticated bar area.

3. Integrate custom drawers

Add cleverly designed drawers to store your mixology tools: corkscrews, measuring cups, drumsticks, cocktail strainers... Each accessory will find its place, for an organized and efficient space.

4. Create a light atmosphere worthy of a real bar

Lighting plays a key role. For a chic and cozy atmosphere, install a backlit back or glass shelves lit from below to highlight your bottles. Looking for a vintage style? The bronze or smoked glass is reminiscent of the elegance of the bars of the 60s.

5. Think about a functional prep space

Turn the bottom shelf of your cabinet into a work surface by adding a countertop. You can also go further by creating a wet bar: a small sink integrated directly into the cabinet, practical for preparing complex cocktails without leaving the kitchen.

Display rather than hide: add style to your bar area

When setting up your kitchen bar area, you have two approaches: proudly display your most beautiful pieces or opt for discretion by hiding them behind closed fronts.

In this project, we have found the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality. A wall cabinet divided into two distinct areas offers a practical and elegant look:

  • A closed section allows bottles to be stored out of sight.

  • An open section accommodates wine glasses, always within reach and beautifully showcased.

On the other side of the room, a well-thought-out bar cabinet conceals a wine storage unit and all the necessary accessories to prepare and serve the aperitif with ease.

Make the most of your countertops: a simple and stylish bar area

Are you short on space or don't plan to renovate your entire kitchen? No problem: your counter can become a bar corner in its own right. A simple, elegant and inexpensive solution that transforms your space without major work.

In this project, we have opted for a minimalist and warm approach. A few carefully chosen bottles, beautiful, well-arranged glasses and discreet but functional mixology accessories are enough to create a bar area with a refined look and a friendly atmosphere.

Design tip: group your elements together on a decorative tray or a small shelf to structure the space and give an impression of intention in the layout.

Add a dedicated cabinet close to the kitchen: functionality and style

To create a functional and distinct bar area without encroaching on your preparation area, consider installing a dedicated bar cabinet, whether built-in or freestanding. It is an ideal solution for those who want a touch of sophistication without renovating the entire kitchen.

Install this piece near your dinette area, near the dining room, or even in a transitional space like an open hallway. This will give you a practical and inviting bar area, perfect for welcoming your guests or for a moment of relaxation at the end of the day.

Decorating bonus: choose a piece of furniture that contrasts slightly with the rest of the kitchen to make it stand out, or harmonize the materials for an integrated and fluid effect.
